Case Study

IT Transformation for statewide Credit Union

A Transformation Assessment Project Yields Opportunities for Major Change

The Challenge

Our CEO was engaged to partner with the credit union by their CEO and CFO to help them transform their IT Department. The Union knew that their IT Department was not being as responsive to the demands of their internal stakeholders or external customers as they needed to be, but they were unsure exactly why.

The Strategy

We took the approach to work top-down, to understand business priorities and current operations, to tie these to the technology strategies and link them to the proposed IT and Cross-business project, to assess where the credit union was in relation to Industry Best Practices, to recommend ways to strengthen the organization and ensure that all solutions were kept simple and implementable.

We conducted an IT Transformation Assessment. Through a series of interviews, workshops and working sessions, the team developed a strategic plan and roadmap, identified, categorized, and reviewed all findings to identify themes to be researched further, focusing on:

  1. Role of IT
  2. Structure of IT Department
  3. Program and Project Management
  4. Organizational Change Management
  5. Innovation & Collaboration

The team developed conclusions and researched current status against competition and Industry Best Practices.

Milestone Roadmap

The Outcome

Recommendations were prioritized and focused on immediate needs for the Union-i.e., critical pain points. Addressed what needed to be done and who should do the work.

Based on the recommendations the client has made significant changes in roles of personnel and adopted Industry standards. They are already seeing significant improvements in performance and response times to internal stakeholder and external customer demands.

They were very surprised on their dependency of 3rd party vendors. They now leverage senior managers more and really communicate with them and are able to validate existing ideas, and new areas of improvement.
